Have you ever done a vacation caravan with someone? Imagine following someone who was picking the route, deciding where to stop, deciding what was worth seeing, and when it was time to move on? If you can imagine that, you might be able to identify what it was like to be a disciple and follow Jesus as he “set his face toward Jerusalem” and experience everything that was to follow. As they followed the route that Jesus picked, they encountered fascinating experiences and people that they would remember the rest of their lives. And they didn’t even have cell phones to capture it in pictures!
During Lent we will join in following Jesus along with the disciples and experience those incredible and challenging moments and teaching that might even change our lives. The events take place in two chapters of the Gospel of Luke. In each story, people had a chance to choose to follow Jesus or walk away. Some did walk away. So, each week we will have the choice individually and as a community to decide to follow Jesus more deeply and find out what abundant life actually feels like.
